Can you do what a CPA, Lawyer, Doctor, Mechanic & Locksmith Do?
A friend told me a story recently about when he were in the boat business. Every year around November they started winterizing boats for customers and they would preach to others that even though it seemed like an easy task, you shouldn’t do it yourself. The risks far out-weighed the reward. Then in April the following year a few of those customers would come in with cracked engine blocks from not doing the job correctly. Even worse was the $2,000+ bill they had to repair their boat. If they had spent the $150 the boat dealership would have been liable for the repairs.
Recently I’ve come across a similar issues in the commercial hardware industry. A few clients who have decided they are in the same business as me, installing hardware and locks. They thought they found a way to save money by going with a Smartkey system. A Smartkey system allows the tenant to rekey cylinders themselves instead of hiring a locksmith. I understand that time and money are of the essential these days, but after researching these type of systems, I have found that they are more of a headache and waste of money than anything.
I understand that some feel that “doing it yourself” is a good thing, but when it comes to things like taxes, legal issues, and medical issues-I turn to the professionals. When it comes to the security of your building, I would do the same thing and turn to the professionals: Locksmiths! Take a look at the attached blog that I came across and some feedback from clients that have used these types of systems.
